Hello World

The literary brilliance of Shakespeare's play, that has for centuries maintained popularity as the greatest love story, is undoubtedly profound. Julia here however begs to disagree with Juliet's words above. As an ardent student of Prof. Ben Sihanya ( who confidently refers to himself as the oracle shrine of wisdom), I was convinced that there is so much more to a name from our lessons on trademark. This took several weeks of sitting through long lecturers that always fell on the afternoons. You already know how the afternoon heat and a full stomach work against keeping eyes open. I however hope to persuade you to join my school of thought shortly and in a more exciting journey.

I am Wanjiku.

Wanjiku was one of the nine daughters of Gikuyu and Mumbi. She is believed to be the mother of the Agaciku Clan of the Agikuyu tribe in Kenya. This is to let you know that i am a proud daughter of the African soil, an afro-optimist who believes in the resilience and potential of our great continent.

I know you have also been addressed as Wanjiku, if you're Kenyan and reading this. This is the part where you feel at home and connected to this blog. The name Wanjiku has been accepted over time to represent the  mwananchi. Let me dive right in to the origin, as my only goal here is to leave you intellectually, socially, politically and all round 'woke'.  The name came up in the 1990's when Kenya's 2nd president, Daniel Arap Moi was in power. At the time, there were calls for people-driven constitutional reforms which the then president dismissed. The president's belief that common men and women had no role to play in constitution making was expressed when he rhetorically asked, What does Wanjiku know about the constitution?

Well, this Wanjiku knows one or two things about the constitution and its making. She is a young lawyer and an advocate of human rights. I have a particularly keen interest in women and children rights and this has earned me a 'feminist' tag that i hope to debunk here some day.

By now i know you have figured out that this is basically an elite journal of a girl in her twenties giving you her unsolicited worldview. I will not commit as to how long i will disrupt your very busy schedules to take you on this journey. This is owing to the immense power i discovered in under-promising and over-delivering. That said,  I hope my words will do my lens justice often enough.

Come lets see the world through my eyes!
